Boring protagonist aside, Valhalla is definitely the strongest of the new Assassin’s Creed RPG trilogy. Level grinding has all but disappeared, and the new setting just oozes atmosphere and theme. Its new skill system promotes experimentation with different builds, and gear has been streamlined in a way where you’re not constantly chasing bigger numbers every single moment. It might not set the world on fire, but you can set some virtual bits on fire yourself if you want.

That balance is not always ideal, but I’m glad, at least, that it forces me to spend more time seeking out interesting things in the game’s world.įor fans of the series it’s really entertaining.
